1958-1960 TRUNK LOCK REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS

The following is a step by step procedure, with a video clip, for getting your trunk to release from inside the back seat of the car. This information was presented by Squarebirds member Richard Hamm, and is used with his permission, for those who will need this information in the future. Thank you, Richard.

1. First, review the video clip that Richard made. It shows how the locking mechanism works and how to remove it.

2. Pull up on the bottom of the rear seat front with your hands on both sides of the center console and it will pop up. Remove from car.

3. The seatback removes with two flat head screws on edges and two 3/8" head bolts on bottom. The seatback then slides down and out. Remove from car.

4. Remove cardboard piece carefully from tabs and push inside trunk to allow access through the 4 holes going into the trunk area.

5. Make about a 4 foot super-long extension. Duct tape extensions together and use 1/2" (or 13mm) 6 point socket at the end to loosen and remove the two bolts holding the latch on. Have a good flashlight available to shine into the trunk area so you can see what you are doing.

6. The latch will come free and you will now be able to open your trunk!

It took me about 5 minutes to take seat out, and about 30 minutes to undo bolts due to all the stuff crammed in the trunk! It is much easier if the spare is not in there!
